Firefighters to Rally
Tomorrow Atlanta firefighters will appeal to Midtown and West End voters to demand that their elected officials treat the citys firefighters equitably with their police counterparts. At 11:00 am, the firefighters will begin canvassing Midtown, passing out flyers and asking the voters to contact their council members in advance of Mondays final budget vote. At 2:00 pm, the firefighters will move on to the West End.
Despite overwhelming public support for treating police and fire officers equally, the Mayor is moving forward on her plan consign the firefighters to permanent second-class status. This even though by every measurable standard, firefighters should make at least as much as their police counterparts. Firefighters work longer hours, require more training, and are more likely to be killed and injured on the job. Atlantas firefighters already make much less than those in the suburbs, paying us less than the police here in the city is just adding insult to injury, Said Jim Daws, Vice President of the Atlanta Professional Firefighters.
On Monday at 12 PM, the firefighters will rally on the steps of City Hall Tower to ask for fairness in the final budget vote.
